Surfing in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is surrounded by warm tropical waters of the Indian Ocean with 1,330 kilometers of coastline - many of its pristine beaches –offer sanctuary all year round. No matter what time of the year, you can find a beach and brilliant blue waters that is in season. Some beaches in Sri Lanka are world-renowned for their knee-deep shallow waters and ideal spots for water sports.
The perfect spots for surfing in south and southwest coast are Beruwala, Balapitiya, Hikkaduwa, Devata, Unawatuna, Koggala, Ahangama, Midigama, Weligama, Mirissa and Hiriketiya. Arugam Bay on the east coast is Sri Lanka’s finest surfing spot and ranked among the best ten surfing spots in the world. The warm water and wind allow you to have two sessions of surf per day in these spots during the season.
