DAY - 1 (Airport – Anuradhapura) -Stay @ - ANURADHAPURA

  • At the arrival lounge of Colombo Airport, guests will be received by your chauffeur guide, who will take care of you for the whole tour and transfer you to Anuradhapura. Approximately 3 and a half hours’ drive.
  • Relaxed few hours at the hotel.
  • Afternoon, visit the scarred city of Anuradhapura, the first capital of ancient Sri Lanka, a UNESCO world heritage site.
  • Anuradhapura is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, containing hundreds of ruins dating back from the 4th century BC to the 11th century AD. These ruins are one of the world’s most evocative sights, containing well-preserved, brick pools and crumbling temples that are truly a collection of archaeological and architectural wonders.

  • The Trincomalee Fort, also known as Fort Frederick, was first built by the Portuguese and then completed by the Dutch in 1624.
  • Koneshwaram Hindu Temple, situated atop the Swami Rock, is a classical medieval Hindu temple devoted to God Shiva. It contains ornate shrines and a massive statue of Shiva, and nearby Lovers’ Leap or Ravana’s Cleft at Swami Rock is a rock cleft approximately 106.68m above sea level.

The major attractions are spread over five caves, the ceiling of which is one large sweep of colourful paintings depicting Buddhist traditions and tales of the Buddha’s previous birth. Some of them are over 2,000 years old.
  • In the afternoon, visit the Dalada Maligawa, the temple where the two surviving relics of the tooth of Lord Buddha are placed and which is an object of veneration for Buddhists.

  • Then, proceed to your reserved viewing gallery seat to watch the Kandy Esala Perahera.
