Culture Tour - Option II - Explore skills of local craftsmen (Winter)
Handicrafts are an integral part of the Sri Lankan culture. History mentions that crafting was limited to a section of people who were given royal patronage and were identified as people belonging to a specific caste. This type of segregation helped to give a unique identity to those industries over time. The same authentic procedures have been performed even today on making such handicrafts.
Sri Lanka being a country in the tropics, where many colourful faces of nature are omnipresent, is not out of place that many of these handicrafts are quite vibrant and dramatic.
This tour programme has carefully planned to experience the real taste of exciting and skilful craftsmanship of masks crafts, Beeralu lace crafts, batiks, jam mining, moonstone mining, Rukada Puppets, and toddy tapping.
Let’s explore the skills of local craftsmen!
