    Madu church is home to the statue of Our Lady of Madu, located 50 km south-east of Mannar. It was built in 1876. The remote village of Madu has been sacred to Buddhists and Hindus also due to the Pattini Devale shrine. That was built in the period of 114 – 136 AD.
