Hiking trail, Kalupahana to Ohiya
The track through the Devil's Staircase to Horton Plains National Park is one of the most popular hiking and jeep track in Sri Lanka. It started at Kalupahana on the Colombo – Badulla road and ended at the 26th-milepost at Horton Plains – Ohiya road (B508).
Though this is a hiker’s paradise only the most ardent hikers will undertake this 14 km hike. This trail goes over old dilapidated estate roads through many tea estates. It will take approximately 5 hours for the complete hiking.
The two most popular points on the route are the “V cut” and "Devils Staircase". "V cut" is a channel cut through the hill to allow the road to pass through. The Devils Staircase is man-made formations on the road extremely steep and difficult. The road will go across a stream which creates the Bambarakanda Falls. You will enjoy every moment of hiking and able to find a lot of breathtaking places where you would like to stay for a while.
