- Gal Oya national park is blessed with a dazzling array of colourful bird species which makes it a must-see destination for birdwatchers. The island named "Bird’s Island", found within the reservoir, is a nesting place for birds.
The most common birds are Painted Partridge, Thick-billed flowerpecker, Crested serpent & Crested hawk eagles, Jungle bush quail, White-bellied sea eagle, Yellow-legged green pigeon, Paradise flycatcher, Ceylon frogmouth, Brown fish owl, Southern sirkeer, Scaly-bellied woodpecker, Brown-capped pygmy woodpecker, Ceylon spurfowl, Southern sirkeer, Racket-tailed drongo, Grey-headed fish eagle, Forest eagle owl, Fish owl, and Little scops owl.
