
Martello Tower, Hambantota
- Martello Tower, Hambantota was one of the few forts built by the British in Sri Lanka. It was a circular shaped small fort built between 1804 and 1806. This design was originated from a fortified tower garrisoned by the French at ‘Mortella’ point in the island of Corsica in the Mediterranean Sea, It is functioning as a Fisheries museum at present. Martello Tower is located 29 km south of Tissamaharama.
